About

This CEU course provides a clinical roadmap for therapists to work ethically and effectively with practitioners of BDSM, fetish, and kink. Statistics suggest that a significant portion of the general population engages in some form of kink, yet these clients often face pathologization and bias in traditional clinical settings. You will learn to provide "Kink-Affirmative" care by distinguishing between healthy, consensual play and clinical pathology. Theoretical Frameworks We utilize the SSC (Safe, Sane, Consensual) and RACK (Risk-Aware Consensual Kink) frameworks to evaluate relationship health. By applying Attachment Theory, we explore how power-exchange dynamics can function as a form of secure bonding and emotional regulation. You will learn to view the "submissive" and "dominant" roles not through a lens of trauma, but as a structured, consensual negotiation of power and trust. Clinical Assessment and Risk Management You will learn to use the "Kink vs. Abuse" diagnostic tool. This involves assessing for the "Four Pillars of Consent": clarity, capacity, coercion-free, and consciousness. We cover the physiological impact of "Sub-Drop" and "Dom-Drop"—the hormonal shifts following high-intensity play—and teach you how to help clients manage these states through structured Aftercare. Identity and Minority Stress Kink is often an "invisible" identity. We address the impact of Minority Stress, focusing on the fear of being "outed" in professional or parenting contexts. The course explores the intersectionality of kink with gender identity, sexual orientation, and neurodivergence, helping you understand why "Kink-Aware" care is a necessary component of cultural humility. Ethics and Professional Competence We address the "Vanilla Bias" and countertransference issues that arise when a therapist’s personal values conflict with a client’s sexual practices. You will learn the necessary vocabulary to avoid making the client "educate" you on basic concepts like impact play
